Andy Warhol Self-Portraits

Our wonderful eighth grade class is getting ready to graduate and move on to high school. We will miss them!!! But.......there is ONE more project we have to do, self-portraits!! Each student took a picture of some one in the class. The pictures were then downloaded onto a computer and edited in Photoshop. The pictures were then printed out onto white paper. The picture was then put on to a copy machine and the image was copied onto a transparency. Each student painted the back of the transparency using different colors for the hair, face and background. The end product looks like an Andy Warhol portrait. We will have these portraits hanging up in the hall. Congratulations class of 2012!

Knights of St. Helen School

The third grade class has been learning all about Medieval knights and their beautifully decorated armor. We watched a wonderful movie titled, Francis, Knight of Assisi. We learned how Francis wanted to be a knight for Christ.

Students then created a design that represented their faith and put that design on their helmet with glue. After the glue dried, we painted the helmets and masks silver to look like shining armor. Our third graders are now Knights for Christ....protectors of St. Helen school

Springtime at St. Helen School

The sun is out and the flowers are starting to bloom in the art room. The first grade class created these vibrant paintings using oil pastels and liquid watercolor paint. Looking at these works of art just brings a smile to my face!! Happy Easter to all and enjoy your spring break.

We are having so much fun. Eighth graders have created their plaster hand sculptures. These pieces of art are based on the work of artist George Segal. We looked at many images of his art and then got to work creating our own pieces. After the plaster dried and the students got their hands free, they painted them. Stop by the art room to check them out.

Second grade is a big year at St. Helen school. Students receive their sacraments of reconciliation and communion. I am so excited for them and proud of all the work that they are doing to prepare.

In the art room, we made a devotional for home. Using metal tooling and ink, we created a lovely repousse piece that each student can take home to remind them of this very special time in their lives.

Spring is Just Around the Corner

Our wonderful sixth grade class had the opportunity or get their hands dirty this past week. We got the clay out and learned how to create a slabs. We then used that knowledge to create a bird feeder. Next week we will be glazing them. They should be home in time to feed the springtime birds.

So Glad To Be Back!!!!

I am so excited to be back inside the art room!!!

This week has been a lot of fun. We have been finishing up the projects that Mrs. Zane and Mrs. Mailey started and preparing for new projects for next week. My kindergarten class started painting poppy fields. They are turning out beautifully. I can't wait to see the finished work. The students used tempera paint to lay in the foundation of the painting and next week we will add the final details. These painting will be on display on March 18th during the Art and Enrichment Fair. I hope you can join us!
